Toroid P & H, LLC recently announced the creation of fifty new manufacturing jobs in Salisbury Maryland as the new entity competes in the Cable and Harness business, filling a void left by Labinal Power Systems. The firm is yet another venture of the Ennerfelt family which has strong ties to the greater Salisbury community.
Immigrating from Sweden in 1982, Gunnar Ennerfelt, President and founder of Toroid Transformator ABÂ (Vaxjo, Sweden), brought with him to Maryland the technology to design and manufacture toroidal transformers. The company was renamed Toroid Corporation and opened its Salisbury plant in the late eighties, eventually constructing a new, 20,000 sf plant in 1993. Along with Goran Hedberg, Gunnar founded Arcon Wedding Equipment, LLC in 1999 and the company continues production of welding machines and equipment at its Salisbury location.
In 2006, Katarina Ennerfelt took over as President and CEO with the retirement of Gunnar. A huge promoter of the potential of offshore wind and understanding the value of a skilled workforce, Katarina joined forces with Wor-Wic Community College, Quality Staffing Services, the Maryland Energy Administration and the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing & Regulation to found the Arcon Welding Services Training Center. Funding through the MEA has allowed graduates to earn a certification required by employers including Exelon and Chesapeake Shipbuilding.
And according to Katarina, Toroid P and H, LLC is a natural extension of its business interests given the void left by Labinal and the availability of a trained workforce in the cable and harness industry. “The expansion was the result of both our strategic plan to diversify our products as well the presence of an experienced and skilled workforce on the Eastern Shore,†said Toroid Corporation President Katarina Ennerfelt.
To support the expansion, Maryland Commerce has approved a $100,000 conditional loan through the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority and Fund (MEDAAF) and Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development Corporation is providing a matching loan. The company is located within the Salisbury-Wicomico Enterprise Zone and is eligible for a number of state and local tax credits.
